Here’s the ninth volume of the GonzoCast series, featuring some excellent funk/soul found in my two favorite music shops in Paris: Groove Store and Le Silence de la Rue.
There’s a lot of James Brown in there, but that’s only because I came upon a huge stash of his EPs and I bought the whole thing. Also, he rocks!
Enjoy!

What would I do if I were to somehow come across an unexpected 3 million bucks?
I would buy this:

As you’ll have noticed I like to make my own custom intros and outros for my podcasts, usually thematically and/or aurally linked to the nature of the podcast. I basically have a huge collection of samples from movies, TV shows, radio shows, stand up bits, and anything else I may find interesting and/or useful. But sometimes I need to scour the internet to find just the piece of sound that I need. My next podcast, for instance, will focus on old Turkish records bought during a trip to Istanbul, and I have to admit I have no audio ressources referring to that.
So I spent some time on blogs and Youtube to find inspiration. I was also doing some searches for images, when I stumbled upon the excellent Thrift Store DJ blog. I’m going to have to find some time to download and listen to all the excellent music that’s available on that website, but what first brought me there was a video featuring Korla Pandit. From that video I watched and read everything I could find on him, and I must say I am pretty damn impressed by all I’ve found on him.
Anyway, here’s the video from which I’m going to sample the voice-over from the beginning, followed by an incredible song and dance version of Miserlou (a.K.a. Misirlou, a.k.a. “the song from Pulp Fiction”, a.k.a. “that Black Eyed Peas song”…ugh…). Enjoy!
How could you not love that turban and that face at the end of each video?
